DNC – On November 21, 2024, Nam Can Tho University (DNC) solemnly hosted the White Coat Ceremony and Medical Ethics Oath for first-year students of the 12th cohort in General Medicine and the inaugural class of International Medical Students.
This ceremony provides an opportunity for first-year medical students to share common goals and values within the medical profession, fostering unity and a sense of responsibility towards society as a whole.

The ceremony also encourages students to collectively embrace the shared mission and values of medicine, continuously striving to enhance their knowledge, skills, resilience, and ethical integrity. It prepares them to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to saving lives and serving humanity.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Quang, Party Committee Secretary and Principal of Nam Can Tho University delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Quang shared: “As one of the multidisciplinary universities in the Mekong Delta region offering health sciences programs, Nam Can Tho University (DNC) is dedicated to undergraduate and postgraduate education in various fields, including Medicine, Medical Radiologic Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy, Dentomaxillofacial, Biomedical Engineering, Hospital Management, Preventive Medicine, and Nursing.
In recent years, the university has continuously invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities, such as the Nam Can Tho Medical Center, the Research and Development Institute for Medicinal Plants, the Laboratory and Practice Management Center, and modern lecture halls. Notably, the university will inaugurate the DNC Health Science Institute on January 19, 2025, marking the 12th anniversary of the DNC’s establishment.
To enhance clinical training quality and provide students with practical experience to improve their skills and expand employment opportunities after graduation, DNC has strengthened partnerships with renowned hospitals, including Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Hue Central Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Can Tho Central General Hospital, Can Tho City General Hospital, Can Tho Children’s Hospital, among others.”

The white coat is not merely a distinctive uniform of the medical field but a powerful symbol of nobility, a spirit of service, and the immense responsibility that healthcare professionals bear towards their patients and society.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phillip Tran (Trần Văn Phúc) is the Senior Assistant at Nam Can Tho University, Vice Chairman of the Medical Advisory Board at Nam Can Tho Medical Center, and a member of PHER – the Vietnam-American Educational Organization.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phillip Tran shared his message with the new students: “Today, as you don the white coat, you have become messengers of trust, carrying with you the mission of caring for the health of the community. This is a commitment to uphold medical ethics and to show unwavering dedication to your patients. To become a skilled doctor, in addition to knowledge and skills, you must put in effort and listen with empathy to understand the stories behind each illness. Medicine is a combination of science and art, and the journey ahead requires humility, perseverance, and a balance between these two elements.
Nam Can Tho University is committed to providing you with the knowledge, tools, and experiences necessary to shape your future. Remember that learning does not stop at textbooks or exams—each patient, each colleague, and every challenge will teach you invaluable lessons. Keep your mind open and your heart steadfast. I would also like to extend my deepest gratitude to the parents and family members present here today.”
During this White Coat Ceremony and Medical Ethics Oath, the representative of the new General Medicine students from the 12th cohort and the inaugural class of International Medical Students at the university, Ms. Heer Chintan Khatadia, a student from the International Medical Program, expressed her greetings and heartfelt thanks to the faculty, as well as the “mentors” in the medical field. She also shared his hope to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare field.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been with me throughout this journey, especially to the senior students who have generously shared their valuable experiences and sincere advice. These have helped me and my peers gain a clearer direction for the future. I also wish to extend my gratitude to our esteemed teachers for imparting knowledge and always showing concern and encouragement. Thanks to the guidance of our professors, my peers and I are now confident in stepping into the field of medicine. The senior students are not only friends but also mentors, helping us understand student life, the challenges, and the obstacles ahead. I believe that as first-year students, we will continue to strive to become skilled, dedicated physicians, always remembering the lessons taught by our professors and the experiences shared by our seniors. Once again, I sincerely thank everyone. I hope that in the future, we will continue to support one another, learn, and grow together”.
On this occasion, Nam Can Tho University launched six specialized clubs, including: the Internal Medicine Club, Surgery Club, Obstetrics and Gynecology Club, Pediatrics Club, Medical Imaging Club, and the International Medical Integration Club – USMLE. Additionally, the university awarded prizes to outstanding second-year students for their exceptional academic and research achievements.
